  2. Project Summary • Develop an auto sampling device to interface with a mass spectrometer • Samples involve bacteria and viruses to be recognized and cataloged by a mass spectrometer • System needs to be self cleaned between samples • Temperature needs to stay constant in the samples

  3. Design Concepts • Fixed sample, moving machine • Fixed machine, moving sample • Combination of both • Bottle top/type design • Fixed safety bottle

  4. Problems • Resealing bottles • Bottle orientation • Bottle identification • Flushing system • Temperature control without overheating moving parts
