Theodore Roosevelt, a sickly boy who found strength in nature, graduated from Harvard and began his political journey in the New York Assembly. After personal tragedy, he sought new beginnings in the West before becoming Assistant Secretary of the Navy. His leadership in the Spanish-American War brought him fame, paving the way for his governorship and eventual vice presidency under McKinley. Upon McKinley’s assassination, Roosevelt enacted a bold progressive agenda, championing conservation, regulating big business, and advocating for labor rights, ultimately becoming one of America’s most powerful presidents.
