  2. Contents • Scope • Why a lifecycle process for the 2D and 3D? • Pre-requisite - The Profile Card • Pre-requisite - Statuses and links between Catia documents • The ‘Ready for Check’ • Case 1 - Control of a 2D in link with a 3D part • Case 2 - Control of a 2D in link with a 3D product • Case 3 - Control of a 3D alone • Case 4 - Control of a 2D/3D in link with another 3D • Global view - Examples • The ‘Cancelled’ • Impact of the ‘Cancelled’ Introduction to the future document lifecycle tool G. Villiger PLM-WG / Forum Catia n°13

  3. 1. Scope Mechanical Design Offices Integration Design Offices 2D + 3D 3D 2D Introduction to the future document lifecycle tool G. Villiger PLM-WG / Forum Catia n°13

  4. 2. Why a lifecycle process for the 2D and 3D? • To synchronise the documents in all databases: Reference + Index • To have the same database for the design offices (Smarteam/Catia = Design Tools) • and the downstream services (CDD/EDMS/CDN = visibility of the documentation) • To have archived what has been controlled • To manage easily old/new references if necessary • A drawing evolves (so its in-link 3D) • In the future, to follow up the parts of the accelerators/cern-projects through the 3D • To use the same 3D for another design • To avoid duplicates • To count the use-cases in any top assembly • Traceability • Furthermore, • To use the correct tools for the quality control/lifecycle process • To re-place the ‘Preliminary’ status Introduction to the future document lifecycle tool G. Villiger PLM-WG / Forum Catia n°13

  7. 5. The Ready for Check • What is it? • A function used by the designer to say : “ My data is ready to be controlled” • A function who verify the states with the Parent Children Links. • A function which freeze the data during the Control process. What is archived is what has been checked • Nota: For modifying a part in ‘ Ready For Check ‘ , the function will be used (see later) In work Date RFC Cancelled Parent Children Links and Ready For Check Ready For Check → Part or Product RFC RFC RFC → « Children first!! » Product Component IF RFC RFC RFC RFC RFC → RFC Drawing • Propagation Facility • Ready For Check • from Parent to all children. • + children Drawings. 15. 11. The ‘Cancelled’ When? - During the quality control.. … when the designer wants to modify the 3D/2D while the documents are in RFC / Checked Designer: ”Ok my documents are ready to be controlled “ → Mail Designer: ”Excuse me but I want to modify my document” → Mail New version in Work (Old is cancelled) … when the controller for the ISO refuses to validate the 2D (thus also the 3D) ISO Controller: “It’s not correct for me” → Mail Designer begins the modifications. New version in Work (Old is cancelled) … when the controller for the Functional refuses to validate the 2D (thus also the 3D) Controller for Functional: “It’s not correct for me” → Mail Designer begins the modifications. 17. Conclusion A new process tool is going to be born: With this tool, we’ll be able to validate the 2D/3D parts or the 3D alones. Through this presentation, you can see where our - PLM-WG members - thoughts are leading us to. Your suggestions are welcome! Please, contact the PLM-WG. Thanks.
