The Japan Internet Exchange (JPIX) has been pivotal in managing internet traffic in Japan since its founding in July 1997. Located at the KDD Otemachi Building, JPIX was established by prominent shareholders including KDD, NEC, and Cisco Systems. As of January 2000, the exchange serves 38 customers and anticipates growth to 50 by year-end. Plans to transition from FDDI to Ethernet technologies are underway, alongside the provision of Gigabit Ethernet ports. Interested parties are invited for a technical tour.
