  1. How to Successfully Implement Pearson Benchmark… …or, What’s Worked for Us, at Least!

  2. Pearson Benchmark is Very Flexible • We have implemented PB in 22 districts. • Every district does it a little bit differently • Different personnel carry out different steps in the process • All of the successful districts, which they all are, started in the same place, however!

  3. Jim’s Fable…Complete with a Moral! “Sounds Great!....Let’s start with ONE (1)!”

  4. It’s important to start small • Delivering an assessment in PB requires a complete system • It’s more than just the web page • Technology, Curriculum, Support, and Teaching staff are all needed and have a role to play.

  5. Starting small also allows for one person to become intimately involved with every step of the process… …once that person has “done it all”, they can determine which parts of the process can be delegated.

  6. Send SIS data to PB Set up Answer Key Only (AKO) in PB Create Student group Assign test to group Pre-ID student answer docs Distribute test booklets/answer docs Administer test Collect/Scan doc Generate/return reports Interpret results Bask in the glow of victory! 11 “Easy” Steps!

  7. Here are two planning documents that we use with districts… …the timelines are somewhat flexible, but we wouldn’t go any shorter than these for the first administration.

  8. Advanced Topics • Once you’ve gotten a feel for AKO, you can consider (in order of complexity): • Internal tests (tests that are created from items within Pearson Benchmark) • Online Assessment of Internal tests • Entering your own items into PB so that you can make your own tests internal • (This is a very inelegant process!)

  9. Questions / Comments? That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it!  Thanks for inviting me out!
