  4. Problem Statement • The need for Patient records portability due to many satellite • locations . Efficient medical documentation coupled with better • provision of care as a result of decision support systems that give • alerts on drug , food allergies and reduce prescription errors. • Huge storage requirement coupled with records misplacement is • a great concern.

Proper Documentation – use of systematic templates , ICD10 and ICPM • Reduction of typo and prescription errors. • Drug and food alerts – reduce sentinel events • Patient Information portability & interoperability • Laboratory results available real time • Increase in revenue through efficient and automatic billing • Real time reports to support administrative functions and research

Lesson Learnt • Challenges are getting the right system and full system adoption by staff • Electronic Health Records increase Efficiency , business processes and higher level of patient care • In 2010 , Obama administration announced spending of $975 Million by 2014 on 100,000 hospitals for EHR • Administration set Mandatory implementation of EHR by 2014 • Kenya Scenario – Private hospitals should embrace EHR to reduce cost of healthcare & improve care.
