  1. Help! Rescue us from the Tsunami of Information! A Life Raft for Netrekker di, Proquest & BrainPop

  2. Objective 1: To glean the very best and most appropriate materials for use with our students Objective 2: To become comfortable and experienced in using the award-winning databases available to us .

  3. Outcome/assessment • Each teachers leaves with attention getting hooks, visual aids, multimedia aids, and/or celebration activities • Each teacher feels comfortable searching for lesson materials in the school’s databases and in search engines.

  4. BrainPop/Jr. More Than a Movie Theater! • To only show BrainPop/Jr. movies to your students is like the lunchroom feeding our students only meat at each meal. Use short cut or type to go to www.brainpop.com. Then type in the teacher user name and the teacher password: gacs6_teacher gac4uandm3

  5. Before BrainPop/Jr. Movie 1.    Quiz as pre-test -- see what students already know by taking the review quiz as a class or the printed quiz independently2.    Activity pages - print out and photocopy for each student. Review vocabulary! Model by typing right into the page!3.    FYI - high interest reading, comic - use as shared reading.

  6. During BrainPop/Jr. Movie  1. Pause on Tim’s letter - have students turn & talk or quick write a response (can finish for homework).2.    Note-taking with Activity pages — use closed captioning! Model with interactive writing! Remember that you can type directly into all of our Activity Pages!3.    Pause & discuss throughout.

  7. After BrainPop/Jr. Movie    1. Retake quiz (printed, independently; whole class - graded)2.    FYI3.    Experiment4.    Timeline5.    Activity Pages

  8. How Do We Plan to Use BrainPop/Jr.? • Opening Screen is a Table of Contents • List of subjects or Flipbooks • Then there are Units • Then there are the Movies. Not every movie has an accompanying unit. • Easily to take the list of movies for each subject area and lay the Curriculum Map beside it. Then plan “hook”, culminating/celebration activity, or whole the unit. (This helps us visual people, but it may not be the most efficient method of planning.) • Clicking on logo takes to very beginning. Then subtopics show across the top in order.

  9. More Planning Ideas • Ideas for Adults gives you lots and lots of ideas for use in the classroom and for reinforcement at home with the parents. • REMEMBER Brainpop/Jr. will merge seamlessly with your Smart Boards or Activboards. Example. On Popquiz let students cross out the wrong answers (teaching elimination). • BrainPop Educator and Promethian Planet have many, many ideas and freebies to help with your Activboards. Sign up/in & under black bar >lessons.

  10. From BrainPop Educators • Newletter & Newletters Archives (that can be searched) • Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 • For some of you, testing is already underway, while others are still in the midst of preparation. Did you know BrainPOP offers an entire category of topics related to Study and Reading Skills? To ease the overload and add some fun to your day, checkout BrainPOP’s movies that relate to testing! • Test-Taking Skills • Test Preparation • Reading Skills • You can also have some fun with this Experiment, from our Test-Taking Skills topic. And BrainPOP Jr. offers movies and activities on Main Idea, Making Inferences, and Reading Nonfiction, and How-To Essays. I would often visit BrainPOP Jr. with my fourth graders to reinforce certain topics.
