A sampling of collections relevant to American religious history: Personal papers • Enoch Hale:Congregational clergyman in Westhampton, Massachusetts (1779-1829), brother of Nathan Hale, Secretary of Hampshire Missionary Society; correspondence, diaries, notes, sermons. He was the author of God in Christ (1849) and Christ in Theology (1851), as well as other works uncongenial to the orthodox theology of his times. His sermons (1888-1921) address the urban problems of the Gilded Age. With the onset of the First World War, Beard participated in the prevailing surge of patriotism bolstered by theology. A sampling of collections relevant to American religious history: Archives of organizations • Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions: The SVM was an organization that sought to recruit university students in the United States for missionary service abroad. The archives provide valuable information on various aspects of American religious life during the period 1886-1964. Printed guide in Special Collections • Missionary Society of Connecticut:(Microfilm: Film Ms.58) The collection is comprised of incoming correspondence, dating 1793-1899, and administrative records, dating 1759-1948, which document the mission efforts of the Society.
