Learning Today • Mobile – information is available anytime and anywhere • Social – students collaborate on projects, tasks, and learning • Connected – students want to connect with others in real time • Multimedia Driven – students want instruction in video and audio and want to create their own as well

  3. Learning Today • Technology is constantly changing. • We are preparing students for careers that may not exist today. • The new careers require new skills and literacies. • Learning can take place any time, anywhere, and from anyone. • So how do we get there?

Bring Your Own Device • Using technology allows learning anytime and any where • Students are familiar with their own devices • Having their own device allows immediate application – no more waiting for the computer • The programs used provides additional support in learning critical skills • Students have more control of their learning – more engaged in learning

  5. Bring Your Own Device BYOD is simply a program where students bring their own personal devices to school and connect them to the school district wireless network that allows filtered internet access.

  6. Bring Your Own Device • What devices can my child bring? • Laptop • Smart Phone • Tablet (includes iPads, Windows tablets, Android tablets, etc.) • E-reader (includes Nook & Kindle) • Netbooks

  7. Bring Your Own Device • Who can bring devices to school? • If students have a signed Cobb County BYOD Student/Parent agreement on file and have their BYOD Agenda Sticker, then they can bring a device at their own risk and choice.

  8. Bring Your Own Device • Do parents need to purchase a device? NO! Each classroom has available technology including desktop computers, laptops, and iPads.

  9. Bring Your Own Device • What if my child’s device is stolen or damaged? • Students bring their personal electronic devices to school at their own risk just like any other personal items. The school district will NOT be held responsible if any personal electronic (or other personal item) is lost, stolen, damaged, or misplaced.

  10. Bring Your Own Device • Will my child be at a disadvantage if they don’t have a device? • No! There is available technology and other resources in the classroom. • What network will users access? • Students will have access to district filtered internet access only by logging in to the CCSD BYOD network. All “chat” and “IM-ing” capabilities have been disabled.

Bring Your Own Device • Which Classrooms are BYOD?You may use your device in any instructional area with teacher approval.  Watch your classrooms for a "YES/NO BYOD" sign.  If there is a day that your teacher does not want you to use your device during class he/she will display the NO BYOD sign.

  14. Bring Your Own Device • Devices will only be used in the classroom. • Students will not be permitted to take devices to the cafeteria or to recess.  • Devices must be turned off when they are being transported to and from the classroom.

Bring Your Own Device • 1.  You may only use your device in a BYOD approved classroom.2.  You may use your device at the discretion and direction of the BYOD classroom teacher.  Watch for the BYOD sign!3.  Your device may be used for instructional purposes, not for making phone calls, social texting or games.4.  Your device must be silenced at school. Students must provide their own earbuds.5.  You may not record images or sound without the express permission of the person being recorded.6.  Your device should be flat on your desk when in use or put away when not in use.  Your BYOD sticker must be visible on your desk.7.  You may only access the CCSD BYOD network, no other networks are allowed.8.  You are responsible for your own tech support.  School system employees are not able to assist you.  9.  You must charge your device at home, bring it to school fully charged.10. You are the only one allowed to touch your device and you are responsible for its security.

  16. Bring Your Own Device Teaching digital citizenship which includes respect and responsibility. 1st offense – Device put away for day 2ndoffense - Device put away for remainder of grading period 3rdoffense -Device no longer allowed at school

Bring Your Own Device What do I do next? • Check to see if your teacher is using BYOD. • Get a user agreement and have a conversation with your family to decide if BYOD is right for you. • Return the user agreement to your teacher. • Remember that the policy for electronic devices is in place at all times, and the guidelines must be followed.
