  2. DATA SOURCES Data can be collected either directly or indirectly. • Direct data source gathered from an original source. Examples include, sale of an item in a supermarket recorded at the EPOS Terminal. Data from sensors e.g a weather station Data collected in a survey e.g. a questionnaire or an interview.

  3. Indirectly- gathered from another source or as a by-product of another operation. Examples include: weather forecast information as announced in the media.

  4. The source and accuracy of data has a major impact on the quality of information produced. • GIGO- stands for Garbage In Garbage Out. – this means that if data input is poor, the resulting output would be poor. Examples: • Unreliable questionnaires- this could be as a result of using inappropriate samples, badly worded questions etc. • Human error- for having a wrong result sheet could be as a result of a wrongly entered score. Etc.

  5. Assignment • Define data. • Mention Two errors a school secretary could make.
