  2. WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS Rob Davis, Council Vice President of Membership Cecil Lawson, Fall Recruitment Chair Bob Wedig, Council Commissioner Margaret Caldwell, BSA Staff Advisor San Jose State University Spartan Athletics: Dan Hackett, Matt Siert, Blake Sasaki

San Jose State Scout Day Join us for the 2013 Spartan Football Boy & Cub Scout Day SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26th – 4:00pm • Event Will Include: • Buy One Get One Free Ticket Offer starting @ only $15 • Free Tailgate Space on our VIP Practice Field • Every unit that signs up 8 new members will be eligible to do a photo shoot on the field prior to the game to commemorate Scout Day 2013 Scout Unit Leaders with the most New Member signups by October 10, 2013 will be entered to win the following: 1ST Place: Recognition on the field for the entire unit during the game 2nd Place: Sideline Passes (maximum of 4) 3rd Place: Autographed Coach Carragher Football

  4. Council Fall Recruiting Rebate Program • $5 rebate for each new youth registered August 15-September 30 • Submit application for rebate and we will credit your unit account in October

Why do we recruit? • Ensure that every eligible Scout is extended an opportunity to join a Scouting program • Enrolling new families ensures the longevity of the unit • Enlist parent participation as helpers, unit leaders or committee members • Organize new units in under-served communities or where current units are at capacity

  6. Why do families join? Friends are having fun in Scouts Parents are aware of the value of Scouting (maybe were Scout(s) as youth) BSA probably stands for babysitters of America Parents became aware through advertising/promotion Someone asked the boy and he begged his parents

  7. HOW do we recruit? Showcase the fun Word of Mouth Print Promotion Organized recruiting drive Internet

  9. GEAR UP:Scheduling your Recruitment • Meet with School Principal (early as possible) • Select a date 2-4 weeks away – Sept. 16-27 This should be SEPARATE from your normal meeting • Schedule a “Boy Talk” for the week of the recruitment • Order promotional supplies

WARM UP:Promoting your Recruitment • Order supplies (flyers, yard signs, etc.) • Post yard signs 2 weeks prior • Deliver flyers 1 week and 2 weeks prior • Hand out stickers during Boy Talk (day of or before recruiting meeting) • Utilize school & community audiences (newsletters, open house, school website, festivals)

PLAY BALLConducting your Recruitment • Make it welcoming *Greeter *Sign in sheet *Name tags • Make it fun! *Activity *Show pictures *Goofy song • Keep it simple – highlight activities, touch on purpose & values, refer to parent guide and pack calendar, have a follow up meeting pre-scheduled, keep it positive! • Be effective – get all paperwork done tonight, collect fees, have a follow up meeting in a week to collect YPT cards for adults and conduct new parent orientation

COOL DOWNFollow Up • Turn in registrations ASAP (all are due by Sept 30th for the $5 rebate) • Contact all families who attended with-in 2 days • Have a follow up meeting in a week • Encourage adults to take Youth Protection Training • Remind families of next Pack meeting and all Fall activity opportunities • Work closely with the new Den - assign a coach

  16. Get them early before other teams do Get them hooked with a FUN activity within 30-days Assign a coach (existing leader) to guide the parents through the first few meetings and develop the new Den leader(s) Get them registered for training Fall Training with the Rookies:
