  1. Tools of Satan:The Lust of the Flesh 1 John 2:15-17

  2. Introduction • Scripture warns against the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life (1 John 2:15-17). • In the temptations of both Eve and Jesus, the devil appealed to the lust of the flesh (Genesis 3:1-6; Matthew 4:1-4; Luke 4:1-4).

  3. Lust of the Flesh - Food and Drink • God provides food for strength and stamina (Proverbs 30:7-9; Ecclesiastes 10:16-17; Matthew 6:9-13, 25-34). • Drunkenness and gluttony are repeatedly condemned (Deuteronomy 21:18-21; Proverbs 23:17-21; 23:29-35; 1 Peter 4:1-5).

  4. Lust of the Flesh - Sexuality • God has provided the marital relationship for companionship and fulfillment of desire (Genesis 2:18-24; Proverbs 5:15-23; Song of Solomon 7:10-13; Hebrews 13:4). • However, God’s Word condemns sexual immorality in all of its varied forms (Matthew 19:3-9; Romans 13:11-14; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8).

  5. Conclusion • Christians should not be ignorant of Satan’s devices (2 Corinthians 2:5-11). • Recognizing the danger, resisting his efforts, let us stand firm in the faith (1 Peter 5:8-9).
