  3. THE GAILLARD CENTER DMS 2010 DMS 2010 * The design and planning for the precinct will complement the city's $142 million renovation of the Galliard Center and create a civic destination for artistic activity, including outdoor public performance spaces.

THE GAILLARD CENTER DMS 2010 * As a parallel investment to the the Gaillard Center, this project envisions new open-air public performance spaces and artistic infrastructure, demonstrating how the arts advance livability and strengthen communities by giving expression to shared civic values and cultural identity.

PROGRAMMING DIAGRAM • CONCEPT AND PROGRAMMING DIAGRAM • (CCDC) • Programmatically responsive to major activities that : • Recreation/physical education open space • Rose Garden • Event spaces for current and potential uses, including tent set-ups and outdoor extension of interior activities • Approach/access to facilities from multiple directions • Passive park uses and landscaping

BUIST ACADEMY WORKSHOP performance • GAILLARD ARTS PRECINCT WORKSHOP 02.01.12 • (CCDC) • 6th grade students from Buist Academy were grouped into teams to explore options for how to create the best possible environment for the users of the space: • Requested plenty of green space, gardens and open areas • Water features, sculptures, areas for seating and picnics • Many teams had several performance spaces scattered throughout the space green space play seating gardens

PLAN FEATURES • SCHEMATIC PLAN • Oval event lawn, with bluestone edging • Granite steps and focal planting area at south end of oval lawn • Lawn kept relatively level as walkways slope to maximize event usage • Ornamental planting areas highlight the space • Central meeting place with specialty pavements between the pavilions • Trees to provide separation, and parking garage screening from Anson

  21. PLAN FEATURES • SCHEMATIC PLAN • Focal area at east end of main lawn, with specialty paving • Loading area between CCDC and 75 Calhoun • Bluestone paving on main paths, standard concrete on secondary walkways • Ornamental plantings, shade trees and seating
