  2. Meredith W. Temples Autobiography • I have a strong interest in both math and art. I believe architecture is a perfect marriage of both of these disciplines and I hope to pursue a career in this field. I am greatly interested in exploring residential design and historic preservation.

  4. Meredith W. Temples Puzzle Design Puzzle Design Challenge Brief Client: Fine Office Furniture, Inc. Target Consumer: Ages 3+ Designer: Meredith W. Temples Problem Statement: A local office furniture manufacturing company throws away tens of thousands of scrap ¾” hardwood cubes that result from its furniture construction processes. The material is expensive, and the scrap represents a sizeable loss of profit. Design Statement: Fine Office Furniture, Inc. would like to return value to its waste product by using it as the raw material for desktop novelty items that will be sold on the showroom floor. Design, build, test, document, and present a three-dimensional puzzle system that is made from the scrap hardwood cubes. The puzzle system must provide an appropriate degree of challenge to a person who is three years of age or older. Criteria: 1.The puzzle must be fabricated from 27 – ¾” hardwood cubes. 2.The puzzle system must contain exactly five puzzle pieces. 3.Each individual puzzle piece must consist of at least four, but no more than six hardwood cubes that are permanently attached to each other. 4.No two puzzle pieces can be the same. 5.The five puzzle pieces must assemble to form a 2 ¼” cube. 6.Some puzzle parts should interlock.

  10. Meredith W. Temples Puzzle Design Puzzle Design Challenge: Test & Evaluation • To test the design of the puzzle cube, a group of six students were given the puzzle to solve and their solution time was recorded. The average solution time was 3.6 minutes. This was comparable to the group average of 3.2 minutes.

  11. Meredith W. Temples Puzzle Design Puzzle Design Challenge: Improvement Recommendations. • Future Improvement Recommendations: • A thinner adhesive, such as wood glue, to eliminate gaps between the puzzle pieces. • All parts should interlock so that the puzzle can be held together independently when not in use. • Applying graphics to the exterior of the puzzle would attract more customers to the product.

  12. Meredith W. Temples Arbor Press Project: Model an Arbor Press Project Description This project required students to model an arbor press by interpreting a set of dimensioned drawings. Students were required to use those drawings to create a computer model of each part and finally create a fully constrained assembly model.
