  2. Uneducated in Pakistan • One out of ten primary school children that are uneducated is located in Pakistan. • Pakistan is ranked second in global ranking of out-of-school children. • 19.6 million children of primary school age, 6.8 million are not in primary school. • 62 percent of girls never got enrolled in schools, 27 percent of boys do not get enrolled in schools. • Large percentage of females are deprived of education.

  3. Reason • Due to their tradition, women are considered as an asset of males of the family. • Males do not allow them to go to school. • Parents do not want their girls to get educated.

  4. Reason • Co-education is also not acceptable in an Islamic country. The courses for women should include subjects relating to their needs in life, for example domestic duties. • They believe that subjects taught in school do not cater to females. • Families would spend money on the son rather than the daughter for education.

  5. Quotes • “The day my brother was born was bittersweet; I was no longer allowed to go to school.” – Ayesha
