    6. CLOZE EXERCISE ANSWERS Words Parts Of Speech has Verb by Preposition recent Adjective mainly Adverb and Conjunction this Pronoun Margarine Noun

    7. OBSERVATION 1 The cloze exercise is based on the seven parts of speech namely: verbs, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, pronouns and nouns.

    8. OBSERVATION 2 Words in sentences are related horizontally. For instance, the sentence: sunflower has always been grown by commercial farmers. The underlined words are related horizontally. Grown is a verb whereas by a preposition. Therefore, to find a missing word identify the word relationships in each sentence as shown above.

    9. OBSERVATION 3 Words in sentences are also related vertically. For instance, the sentence: A large percentage of this oil is processed for cooking oil and for the manufacture of margarine. Note that the underlined word margarine is not the only product of sunflower-seed oil. This explains why some blank spaces in a cloze exercise could have more than one possible answer e.g. margarine. The vertical relationship of words in sentences makes the options possible.
