Exercise Direction • Exercise Director • Overall control of the exercise • Briefs and debriefs directing staff • Commences exercise • Establish/maintain a battle rhythm • Maintain Master Schedule • Terminates exercise • Assistant Exercise Director • (May be required in large or complex exercises)

  4. Exercise Evaluation • Exercise Evaluator/s • Evaluate all aspects of the: • Exercise Program • Response to the scenario • Prepare the Exercise Evaluation Report

  5. Exercise Observation • Do not have a Directing Staff role • Do not interact with participants • Enhance their own knowledge about procedures and practices • High profile exercise will attract many requests to ‘observe’.

  6. Input Control • Provide inputs in line with the Master Schedule • Respond to enquiries from or actions by exercise participants • Simulate roles, positions, organisations, etc. that are required to ensure the effective flow of information • May manage the rate at which new participants are introduced to the exercise

  7. Facilitation • Brief participants as necessary at the beginning of each shift or day • Monitor the flow of exercise information • Monitor performance against the exercise objectives • Provide immediate feedback to exercise participants • Report regular to the Exercise Director • Facilitate daily debriefs • Contribute towards the exercise debrief

  8. Media/Visitor Management • Manage all aspects of public relations and media during the exercise • Meet, brief and escort media and visitors that attend the exercise • (should not have a role as an exercise participant)

  9. Facilities and Logistics • Safety • Security • Catering • Transport • Stores, consumables, office equipment and facilities • Communication equipment • IT equipment • Establishment and repatriation of exercise venues • Administration activities
