Les Phrases avec “Si” (si clauses) • Used to say what someone would do if things were different. • Ex: If I were rich, I would buy a house. • Constructed of two clauses, an “if” clause and a “result” clause. • “If” clause  SI + IMPARFAIT • “Result” clause  CONDITIONNEL SI + IMPARFAIT  CONDITIONNEL CONDITIONNEL  SI + IMPARFAIT Ex: Si j’étais riche, j’achèteraisunemaison. Ex: Je mangerais le gâteausij’avaisfaim. • Can also say Si + on + imparfait to invite someone to something. • Ex: Si on allait au centre commercial? Want to go to the mall?

  4. Le Subjonctif - Réguliers FORM: Drop –ent off of the present-tense ils form and add endings: Je  -e Nous -ions Tu -esVous  -iez Il/Elle  -eIls/Elles  -ent Ex: Il fautquetufinissestes devoirs. It is necessary that you finish your homework.

Le Subjonctif- Irréguliers • Some verbs have two stems in the subjunctive: boire, devoir, prendre, venir, voir • For the je, tu, il/elle, and ils/elles form, follow the regular rules • For the nous and vous forms, take the present tense conjugation in the nous form, get rid of the –ons, and add the regular subjunctive endings • Ex: venir Je vienne Nous venions TuviennesVousveniez Il/Elle vienneIls/Ellesviennent • The verbs aller, être, avoir,faire, pouvoir, savoir, vouloir, and falloirare all also irregular.
