  4. Program Information The Region III Educator Preparation Program provides an opportunity for college graduates to become certified teachers through an “accelerated” education internship program.

  5. Program Schedule Program Components: • Field Experience observations (30 hours) • Content Training/Exams • Training starts in October 2011 (ongoing Saturdays-Fall/Spring) • First cycle of Generalist online training starts on Oct. 10, 2011 • 2 Cycles of online training +1 Sp. Ed. • Spring Saturday Pre-service (Dates TBD) • Summer Pre-service training July 9-21, 2012 • One-year paid internship from August 2012 to May/June 2013

Eligibility Requirements • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning • Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools • North Central Association of Colleges and Schools • New England Association of Schools and Colleges • Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools • Western Association of Schools and Colleges *Official transcripts from each institution where college credit was received may be sent directly from the institution to Region III EPP. *Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved credential evaluation service (SPANTRAN)

  8. Eligibility Requirements • An overall 2.5 grade point average or above on a 4.0 system or 2.5 grade point average for the last 60 hours • Have the required block of semester hours for the desired area of certification with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 system

Eligibility Requirements • Basic Skills Test minimum scores: • TASP/THEA: Reading 230 Math 230 Writing 220 ACT: Reading 22 Math 22 English 22 SAT: Verbal 500 Quantitative 500 GRE: Verbal 500 Quantitative 500 Accuplacer: Reading 78 Math 63 Writing 80 Essay 6 (Or a combination of the above tests) • Documentation of meeting the Basic Skills requirement must be submitted before acceptance into the Region III Educator Preparation Program. • Documentation due by April 13, 2012.

  10. Eligibility Requirements • 3 letters of recommendation • 30 hours of classroom observations (field experience) in the area being sought (more observation hours may be required by SBEC) • Clearance on criminal record check

Preliminary Criminal Record Evaluation If you have reason to believe that you may be ineligible for educator certification due to a conviction or deferred adjudication for a felony or misdemeanor offense, you should request a “Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation” from the Texas Education Agency at www.tea.state.tx.us. Under “Quick Links” click Educator Certification. On next page click on “Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation” for FAQ’s.

  12. Certification Area Requirements Generalist EC-6 & EC-6 Bilingual • 24 total semester hours in a combination of English, math, natural science, and social studies. A minimum of 3 hours in each area is required. Bilingual Generalist In addition, applicants must demonstrate a high level of written and oral proficiency in Spanish as a condition of pre-entry.

  13. Certification Area Requirements Generalist 4-8 & 4-8 Bilingual • 36 total semester hours in a combination of English, math, natural science, and social studies. A minimum of 6 hours in each area is required. • Bilingual Generalist In addition, applicants must demonstrate a high level of written and oral proficiency in Spanish as a condition of pre-entry.

  14. Secondary Content Areas Certification Area Requirements • NCLB - Highly Qualified • 24 hours in the content area with 12 hours being upper level • The semester hours need to be in the area of certification (the courses need to be labeled in the area of certification).

Secondary Content Areas If there is a question about whether a course should be counted in the GPA calculation, obtain a course description and provide a written request for review to an EPP specialist. 2011 and 2012 transcripts should be provided as soon as graduated – need conferred date of degree on transcript.

  17. *Completion of the Cycle Training does not guarantee acceptance into the Region III EPP. *Acceptance into the program is contingent upon receipt of all official transcripts, GPA of 2.5, appropriate coursework on transcripts, and successful completion of a Basic Skills test.

Region III EPP Online Course Fees(Subject to Change) EC-12 Module Facilitator FeeTotal Special Education $225 $50 = $275 Bilingual Only $275 $50 = $325 ELAR 8-12 $275 $50 = $325 Math 8-12 $275 $50 = $325 Fees are due on or before the date of the orientation training. No module will be opened for an individual until payment in full is received for the online courses. If payment is received after the module has begun, the individual will automatically be placed in the next cycle.

  25. Deadlines Secondary Application Deadline is April 2, 2012. Deadline for meeting Basic Skills requirement is April 13, 2012. Field Experience Observations and 3 recommendation letters must be completed by May 18, 2012. Spring 2012 Graduates must get transcript with conferred date of degree, or at least a letter from the Office of Admissions and Records stating that requirements have been met for the degree, to the EPP by May 25, 2012.

  26. Applicant to Intern Status Applicants should not resign from their present employment positions until they have been employed by an ISD. Being accepted into the EPP does not guarantee employment by a school district. The applicant/intern is responsible for securing a teaching position with a school district prior to the start of the 2012- 2013 school year.

  27. Intern to Certified Teacher Complete all required training sessions (300 training hours). Submit all required documentation including principal and mentor forms as well as intern forms. Take required TExES exams on a timely basis and earn passing scores. Submit completed documentation for certification. Apply for appropriate SBEC certificates and pay SBEC fees. Successfully complete the one-year internship with district and Region III recommendations for certification.

  28. Possible Financial Assistance If a veteran, check your veteran benefits to see if you have any available benefits remaining. (http://www.gibill.va.gov/) If a spouse of active duty personnel, check with MYCAA to see if you’re eligible for education benefits. (https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/) *Information for both of these options can be obtained when an interview is scheduled with EPP staff.
