In crafting an engaging presentation, whether through PowerPoint, PDF, or other mediums, style is crucial. Keep your slides easy to read and not overly fussy. Consider using drop shadows and contrasting colors to enhance readability. Limit text per slide to avoid crowding, and don't just read from the slides—use them as a guide. Select appropriate themes and icons, and ensure your text stands out against the background. Remember, your presentation should captivate and inform within a 7-10 minute time frame.

  4. Audio signals in space • Icons can be appropriately themed (see above) • There are many fonts available • Make sure there is not too much text for a single page otherwise everything becomes crushed together and it is too daunting for the viewer and also don’t just read from the slide, try to use it as a guide or an outline • Use comic sans at your own risk • And make sure the text contrasts w/ the BG

  5. Images • Give the eye a chance to play • But should have something to do with the content • Trigger your thoughts, remind you of what you want to say • Like this reminder that you have 7-10 minutes for your presentation

  6. Media • You can duplicate your slide and change the content, once you’ve found a combination of text, BG, and overall style that you like • And remember that no more than 2 min. of your presentation should be media

  7. Research paper • Revisit Purdue page • http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/ • Includes general info & MLA guide • 3000+ word paper with list of works cited and endnotes (footnotes at end)

  8. MLA format • Modern Language Association • Double space • 12 pt. font • 1” margins • ½” indent on paragraphs • Header with pg. numbers upper R corner • No title pg. • Look at sample paper

  9. OK?

  10. “Have fun with it”Prof. Drew Browning, UIC • You’re doing something that interests you • You could be writing on 19th C. agriculture like the sample paper • Don’t be nervous – we are sympathetic listeners who want to know what you have to say
