FGDC Metadata Working Group
The FGDC Metadata Working Group convened on March 19, 2009, to discuss key updates and next steps regarding the North American Profile metadata approval process. Major points include approval timelines, coordination with INCITS and ANSI, and ongoing development of NAP resources and metadata documentation. The group is working on revisions to the Geospatial Metadata fact sheet and the NAP Transition Guidance Document, along with a Feature Catalog draft due in Fall 2009. Participants are also encouraged to engage as Friends of the Committee for enhanced collaboration.

Friends of the Committee (FOC) Role – “the basics” • Can observe INCITS L1 meetings • May receive copies of meeting notices, agendas and other public information • May receive copies of national drafts at Milestone 4, ANSI 45-day public review, only at no cost • Shall Not serve on US Delegations to ISO TC211 Plenary or associated meetings or hold any officer position • Shall Not vote on TC matters (formal or informal voting), at any time.
How does one become a “Friend” • Technical Committees or their subgroups wishing to identify and external organization as a FOC shall do so by a valid committee motion, recorded in the meeting minutes, and shall notify the INCITS Secretariat of any such action. • EPA, DHG, USGS, USACE, FGDC, OGC, GMU are all members of L1 • FOC are Friends under a committee member.
