  5. Communications BASICS:Preparing the set - power source: sufficient, connection - antenna, cable assemblies: tight, correct - audio accessoires, function switches: connect, proper operation

  6. Communications BASICS: Transmitting - decide what you are going to say ensuring it will be clear and brief - make sure no-one else is speaking on the net when you start - remember to divide your message into sensible phrases, make pauses and maintain a natural rhythm to your speech

  7. Communications BASICS: Transmitting - avoid excessive calling and unofficial transmissions - use standard pronounciation. Emphasize vowels sufficiently. Avoid extremes of pitch, speak in a moderately strong voice, do not shout. - keep a distance of about 5 cms btw the mic and your lips. Shield your mic from background noises

  26. Radio check When you request for a radio check, you ask:  what is my signal strenght and readability i.e. how do you read me? ?

  27. Report of signal strenght • loud strong • good good • weak with difficulty • very weak with big difficulty • nothing heard cannot hear

  28. Report of readability • clear excellent quality • readable good quality • distorted I have troubles in reading you due to distortion • with I have troubles in readinginterference you due to interference • not readable I can hear you transmit, but I cannot read you at all
