3D Free-form Deformation By Chase Khamashta
Background • In computer graphics, free-form deformation (FFD) is a geometric technique used to model simple deformations of rigid objects. It is based on the idea of enclosing an object within a cube or another hull object, and transforming the object within the hull as the hull is deformed.
Concepts in FFD • Local Coordinates • Bezier Curves • Control Points
The Bezier Curve • Bezier curve equation • Geometric Representation
The Curve in FFD • The local coordinates remain the same • Spatial coordinates change according to vertex location in the local space.
The Curve in FFD (cont.) • Calculating the new vertex location
