HEALTH impact of coal plant/storage Taong 2014 • High incidence of upper respiratory track infection; asthma , Pneumonia, TB • Limay – 3 children (age ranging from 10-14 years old) died due to asthma (December 2014) - upper respiratory diseases – highest cause of morbidity - cancer – highest cause of deaths Mariveles – high incidence of TB, asthma, migraine, stomach aches, pneumonia ( Brgy. Sisiman, PTB incidence increased from 6 PTB Cases in 2013 to 27 in 2014) Source: Barangay Health Worker/Center in Brgy. Sisiman, Mariveles • Skin rashes and itching • Migraine ; difficulty in breathing (specially of workers)

Mariveles Community observation Sitio Palao, Baseco • First recipients of air pollution: • community of workers living a kilometer away from the coal plant site • houses located 50 meters from the smokestack • Out of 200 children – 115 have asthma • September 5, 2014: “FOG” phenomenon • Other disease condition: diarrhea, vomiting, stomachache

  10. Brgys. Baseco and Sisiman Even animals are affected: + October –December 2014 : - 10 cows died - 20 farm goats: affected by mouth sores/rashes - roosters affected (colds)
