Gift Aid Please record all the money you collect on your sponsorship form and ask (tax paying) sponsors to agree to Gift Aid Gift Aid is paid by HM Customers & excise – not the sponsors All your sponsors need to do is; Agree for you to tick the Gift Aid box on the sponsorship form Provide you with their full name and address – including post code (office addresses are not accepted) If someone gives you £10 brown dog will raise £12.50 This only works if you send us your completed forms Last year less than 50% of challengers sent us their sponsor forms which means free money was lost 90 people raising £100 = £9000 brown dog will raise £11,250 90 people raising £400 = £36,000 brown dog will raise £45,000 PLEASE support the Gift Aid process details of where to send your forms will be issued after the challenge

Wordsworth Dry Run 24th April Over the last 10 years the dry run process has been a critical part of challenge planning, so in April a group of volunteers went up to the Lakes to prepare for this years challenge. The volunteers split up into 3 groups and covered a third of the challenge each. • Feedback and photographs are attached in the next 3 pages.   8. Wordsworth Dry Run Report – Phase 1 The start of the walk is an immediate climb straight up to the top of ‘Cat Bells’. This certainly gets the muscles warmed up and the lungs working. From there it’s a steady climb continuing upwards through ‘Maiden Moor’ and High ‘Spy’. After ‘High Spy’ the route takes a descent to ‘Dale Head Tarn’ and then heads cross-country through a marshy area. This was actually quite energy-sapping and could be even more-so if the ground is wet. We then pick up the path that leads to a steep drop towards the slate mine at ‘Honister Pass’. This is the first real tester on your knees as it’s a fair old drop into Honister. The first section is a taste of what’s to come and will certainly get us all warmed up nicely.   9. Wordsworth Dry Run Report – Phase 2 I'd forgotten how steep the initial climb from Honister Pass up to Grey Knot really is!! It's not for the faint hearted. Oh, and talking of faint hearted..... The climb up to Great Gable is one to really make your knees knock!! Oh.......and talking of knocking knees......the climb down from Great Gable.....WELL!!  No, seriously, the whole day is filled with surprises and some of THE most fantastic scenery.  On the day, what ever you do, DON'T forget to turn around to admire the view Garry ‘Moggy’ Morris Sca Fell Green Gable Great Gable It was the first time up Great Gable for me. After Green Gable you dip down before heading up Great Gable After a short lunch we made our way down to the next check point. On the way down to the next check point we found we were quite popular with plenty of people eager to chat ! Either that or they just wanted a rest on their way up. Tip of the day was that there is no electricity supply at the top so no need to bring that handy foot spa. Nick Hill

  10. Wordsworth Dry Run Report – Phase 3 We had to walk to the tarn at the base of Great Gable to start phase 3 of the challenge (see photo below). From there we followed the path (see photo bottom right) to the summit of Scafel Pike which took us about 2 hours. I can’t stress enough how rocky this path is, which gets worse as you get nearer to the summit – good walking boots are essential. I used walking poles for the first time and they really helped me, albeit Nel didn’t get on with them (if you do buy poles, I suggest you test them out first). Despite the snow that was still around, it was a hot day and we were certainly glad we took sufficient water (another important tip as it could be hotter in June). It’s a good old slog up to the top, which will feel even harder in June when you will have been walking for 9 hours prior to climbing Scafel Pike. Once you have enjoyed the great view (weather permitting) you then have a 3.5 hour walk to the finish point which does wonders for your knees! In summary a fantastic walk with wonderful scenery – we both felt that the walking we have been doing since Xmas had been essential and certainly plan to do more big walks in the next 5 weeks so we can really enjoy the big day and get to the end on time. Hospital Raffle Draw – 22 April Raffle Raises £5,850 • On Thursday 22nd April a draw was made for the Skin Cancer Appeal Raffle. • Richard Parkes (Chairman of brown dog) and Gary Wolstenholme (Professional Golfer and ex. patient on the Ward) made the draw. • Richard said after the event • “I really enjoyed meeting some of the Doctors and Nurses from the Hospital who will be attempting the challenge with us in June. The raffle has generated a fantastic amount and it’s a great start towards our goal”. • Debbie Adlerstein (Leicester Hospitals Charities Manager, also doing the Wordsworth Challenge) said • “we have been overwhelmed by the numbers of patients who have supported and contributed towards this very worthy cause. Over 800 people have bought raffle tickets amounting to a staggering £5,850 being raised towards the appeal.  We are extremely grateful to everyone who has sold and purchased tickets, to our kind sponsors and to Gary Wolstenholme for making the draw” • Congratulations to Debbie and everyone involved in selling the tickets
