  5. University of New York at Binghamton • BU baseball pitcher Lane among elite "Wallace Watch" List
Senior all-star led America East in saves last spring
Wallace Award Release • VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton baseball pitcher Greg Lane (Binghamton, N.Y.) is among the players selected for the 2009 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List, released by the College Baseball Foundation. He is the second BU player in as many years to be included. Junior pitcher Jeff Dennis was on last year's list. • The Wallace Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate baseball player. The award is dedicated to the memory of the former Texas Tech player and assistant coach Brooks Wallace, who played within the Texas Rangers' organization before his untimely death at age 27. • Lane was dominant in 2008, leading the Bearcats to their second straight America East regular season title and runnerup postseason finish. He compiled a school-record and conference-leading 11 saves and was selected as a first team America East all-star. Lane, a 6-foot-2 righthander, owned a 1.97 earned run average and chipped in three wins in addition to his saves total. • Lane transferred from Hofstra after his freshman season and has pitched the last two years for the Bearcats. He is a former scholastic all-star from nearby Binghamton High School. • "This is a real tribute to how hard Greg has worked during his time here at
Binghamton," head coach Tim Sinicki said. "From the day Greg stepped foot on campus he has been willing to accept whatever role the coaching staff thought would serve the program best. He's gone from set-up man to first-team all-conference closer to candidate for national player of the year. It is an incredible honor for Greg just to be listed among the very best players across the country. I am extremely proud of Greg and am looking forward to him having a memorable senior season."

  6. Greg Lane • In 2009, Lane pitched for the Sussex Skyhawks in the Canadian-American Association where he appeared in 21 games. He was 1-2 with two saves and a 3.48 ERA. • Starting out in 2010, Lane pitched on the staff for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association where he appeared in 13 games. On June 26th, the Normal CornBelters obtained Greg in a trade with the Saltdogs for a player to be named later. In his first appearance for the CornBelters, he pitched a scoreless 9th inning on June 29th against the Oakland County Cruisers. On August 11th, Greg pitched the final 2 outs against the Lake Erie Crushers in the 9th inning without giving up any runs to earn his only save for the CornBelters. Lane finished the 2010 season with an 0-4 record and 1 save with a 3.99 ERA while striking out 13 and walking 8.
