  1. Non-Hormonal Birth Control Measures Summary: - In order to have a control over your pregnancy, you can use a number of non- hormonal birth control measures. Here are the different options you can use. Do you want to control unwanted pregnancy without any hormonal changes in your body due to breastfeeding, health issues or side effects like headaches, hair thinning, weight gain, etc. A perfect solution for all these issues is non-hormonal birth control methods. They help to control pregnancy without changing the natural hormonal cycle of the body. They offer a wide variety of options, like those listed below, from which you can choose by yourself or by taking proper consultation for some of the options: 1) Copper AUD or intrauterine device: It is a soft, flexible device inserted inside women's uterus with a thin string on the string on end hanging down insight the vagina. It can be U- shaped like Cu375 IUD or T-shaped like Nova-T 380. It releases copper which is toxic for the sperm and thus prevents pregnancy with about 99% efficiency. 2) Condoms: They prevent pregnancy as well as STDs. Available in a variety of colours, flavours, and materials, they are very cheap and easily available. They keep sperms inside the condom and provide 98% efficiency. Female condoms are available as well and prevent the sperm from entering the uterus or even reaching the cervix. 3) Spermicide: Available as gel, foam or cream, they contain chemicals to kill the sperm. Having a failure rate of about 28%, they are preferably used along with sponges, condoms and other barrier methods. Also, they are a little costlier than condoms. 4) Sponge: Plastic foam material inserted into the vagina to act as a barrier between the cervix and sperm. It can be used for repeated intercourse for up to 24 hours but should be removed only after 6 hours of the last sexual intercourse. Being cheap and having an efficiency of 91% makes it quite a good option. 5) Cervical cap: A silicone plug, inserted into the vagina 6 hours before sexual intercourse, preventing the sperm from entering into the uterus with reusability for up to 48 hours, It is beneficial for women who have not given birth before, but it is quite costly. 6) Diaphragm: A reusable dome-like structure made of silicon, with an efficiency of 94%, inserted into the vagina before sexual intercourse preventing the sperm from entering the uterus. It should be left for a minimum of 6 hours after sexual intercourse and a maximum of 24 hours.

  2. 7) Family Planning: Sex while ovulating is what leads to getting pregnant. A woman ovulates between 7 to 14 days after her first period. So, if your cycle is consistent, you can avoid sex during this time to prevent getting pregnant. While there are pros and cons to both hormonal and non-hormonal methods, you should consider the later if you have sex very infrequently, you smoke, you have the worst post menstrual symptoms, or you just want to be double sure by using it along with hormonal methods.
