  2. Appearance • Marie has: • A dark complexion • Dark hair • Dark eyes Strengths and weaknesses • Marie is very good at taking care of herself and others • Marie is very strong-willed and stands for what she believes in, such as against Uncle Frank

  3. How does Marie feel about herself? • Marie feels almost like a daughter of Wes and Gail Hayden. • She also believes in standing up for herself and doing what she believes in. How does Marie act and react? Marie is certain she does not want a doctor when Frank is offered for help. She reacts angrily towards the family.

  4. Marie’s association with setting • Marie is associated with the house as, in the book, she is only talked about when she is with the family at the house. Marie’s Background We do not know much about Marie’s background but we do know she is from the Indian reserve.

  5. Marie’s beliefs • Marie is of Indian American descent so she has the beliefs of the Sioux tribe. • She stays humble to her homeland but also embraces the American culture. Marie’s personality • Marie has a fun loving personality and likes to have fun but can be serious if the need arises. • She is very caring, spending her time as a house keeper and baby sitter for the Hayden family.

  6. What do the other characters say about Marie? The Haydens think of Marie almost like family and don’t always think of her just as “the help”. A great respect is pointed towards Marie as she is thought of as a good hardworking Indian when compared to the other people of her tribe.
