  1. To identify the kind of spiritual healing people need To explain how the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can help To evaluate which part of the Sacrament is the most effective Physician, Heal Thyself ! What kind of healing do we need ? What sort of person can make us well again ?

  2. I am never going to be able to do the things I used tolove doing, like gardening. Although this woman is physically ill, she is also thinking about things, in a way that isn’t healthy for her. What sort of unhealthy thoughts could she have ? This woman has 6 thoughts. Go around the room and try and note down all 6 from others in the class in 3 mins I won’t be able to work again. I won’t have much money. Am I always going to be in pain, or suffering from this? How will I bear it day in, day out ? My friends will forget about me because I am sick and poor. What if this illness leads to death? I don’t want to die ! I am afraid of death. I feel angry, and sometimes I feel very depressed. What is the point of my life now?

  3. God shows His care and healing through the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick – the Sacrament makes Jesus present to the sick person in a healing, personal way. What change of attitude might the Sacrament give this woman, for each of her thoughts ? Mindmap with your partner. Remember, that receiving any Sacrament, is receiving the character and person of Jesus.

Anointing of the head and other parts of the body with holy oil The Viaticum: receive the Eucharist as “food for the journey” Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) Friendship and peace with God Reconciliation through Jesus, Spiritual food and giving thanks – even in everything. Healing, Strength, Peace . Holy oil is a Symbol of health and strength Draw the 3 parts of the Sacrament in your book, and label them. Give your drawing a subtitle. Explain how each of the three parts that make up the Sacrament could help heal some of the woman’s “thoughts” that you collected. **Which part of the Sacrament is the most important and effective ? Why ?

  5. Do a role play including the 3 parts of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
