Comprehensive Case Study: Upper End Humeral Fracture, Acromion Fracture & AC Joint Separation

This case study examines a 16-year-old male varsity football quarterback with a complex combination of injuries, including an upper end humeral fracture, acromion fracture, and AC joint separation. The athlete suffered these injuries after falling directly onto his left elbow during a game, leading to immediate shoulder pain and swelling. Diagnosis was confirmed via X-rays, revealing two closed fractures. Treatment involved immobilization, pain management, and rest, with a focus on avoiding further growth plate complications due to the athlete's age.

  10. X-rays

  11. Treatment post-hospital • Prescribed Vicodin and Acetaminophen • Instructed to ice and rest Goodnight….

  12. Uniqueness • Mechanism created combination of injuries. • Risk for a growth plate fracture seeing as he is still young. • History of growth plate separation in his right elbow • The present fracture in the humerus is extremely close to the growth plate but does not go through it, fortunately

  13. Conclusion • Continue treatments of medication, ice, and rest until the injury is fully healed. • Then begin progressive rehabilitation.
