  2. Introduction • Understanding the best welding safety practices can help to keep you safe while enjoying your new career as a welder. • When it comes to welding tips, many of them are widely applicable, and everyone gets exposed to some of the same dangers. • Here are some tips that can help to mitigate some of the dangers so that you have a largely positive experience.

  3. Tip #1: Read the Owner's Manual • One of the most essential aspects and one of the best welding tips that you can learn, you want to read your manual to get acquainted with your machine. • Along with learning some of the most important safety information, you also learn about how to maximize the potential of your machine to get the most from it.

  4. Before you let anyone operate the machine, you should first check to see that they understand how it works. • You should never substitute anything for the owner's manual because this will give you some of the most up-to-date information.

  5. Tip #2: Dress Properly • As a welder, you need to understand how following certain welding safety tips can make a big difference. • You don't want to expose your skin to the ultraviolet rays. • Some of the safety equipment essentials that you will need include: • Bandana • Gloves • Safety glasses • Jacket

  6. Helmet • Leather apron • Leather shoes • Denim pants • Especially with Arc welding, it emits rays that can be harmful to you. • You can damage your skin and eyes if you don't take measures to properly protect them. • In addition, leaving your skin exposed could lead to painful burns.

  7. Tip #3: Work in a Well Ventilated Area • The fumes that get produced while operating can be dangerous to your health. • You don't want to overexpose yourself to the fumes or the gases that occur from this. • It will damage your health over the short term and the long term. Some of the things that exposure can lead to include asthma, bronchitis and irritation of the bronchioles. • For most employers, they will give you a fan and a removable exhaust hood.

  8. Tip #4: Don't Look at the Light • You should always wear your helmet for welding safety. Without having the proper safety equipment on, you can develop a painful condition known as Arc Flash. • It typically develops within the following hours, and the damage from ultraviolet light can happen quickly. • Seldom is this a permanent condition, but you will know you have it if you have swelling of the eyes, pain or tearing up.

  9. Tip #5: Wear Earmuffs or Ear Plugs • For one thing, it will protect your hearing, but the even bigger danger comes from the sparks that come off the welder. • When you wear earmuffs or earplugs, it prevents the sparks from entering the ears. • The higher noise levels can eventually start doing damage to your ears, and you want to take active measures that prevent this from happening. • Through following these welding safety tips, you can stay safe. It isn't necessarily a tough job, but as a beginning welder, you will learn the importance of taking all the right precautions.

  10. Especially if you plan to weld often, you want to take these active measures because you can experience the most benefits from it while not experiencing as many of the negatives. • Welding can be a highly rewarding hobby or profession because you can build things with it and say that you took part in building it. • However, you have to make sure that you always follow the right safety protocol to do it the most effectively.
