  2. Objective • Academic Academy is an academic assistance program targeted to students in two categories: • Those who didn’t learn essential skills as diagnosed by their classroom teacher. • Those students who did not complete sufficient work to determine their level of learning.

  3. Teacher Responsibilities • Each day before Academic Academy teachers should identify students and prepare accordingly. • Teachers will coordinate within subject area and grade level PLC meetings essential skills needed to be re-taught. • Teachers of math, reading, language arts, social studies, and science will identify students for “RT” or “LE.” Each student identified will have a stamp in their planner.

  4. Student Responsibilities • Students will fall under one of the following categories on Academic Academy days: • 1.“LE” - lack-of-effort. • 2.“RT” - re-teach. • 3.“Open Academy.” • 4.“No Planner.”

  5. Open Academy • Open Academy- any student that is not identified as an LE or RT. • All teachers will receive students for “Open Academy” that are students of record for that teacher, unless the teacher has a full academy class. • Any core teacher should have students coming to them for re-teaching or enrichment. • Every teacher should have students in their room.

  6. LE- Lack of Effort • Work for students identified needing supervised study hall for lack-of-effort will be placed in a folder. • The folder will have the teacher’s name on it. The work that needs to be done will have the student and teacher’s name on it. • The folder will be given to the “LE” administrator prior to end of school on the day before Academic Academy.

  7. No Planner Students • Students without a planner will be sent to the cafeteria where they will be assigned work detail. • If you have a student without a planner, but you know where they need to go, you may write the student a pass to that teacher.

  8. Re-teach (RT) • If students are coming to you for RT, you should be re-teaching a skill that has already been taught. • Re-teaching is not teaching louder, slower, or over and over again! • When re-teaching, you should use a different strategy. • Please do not be possessive of your kids. Share them with your colleagues!

  9. Club Meetings • Clubs can meet if the sponsor sends passes to the students’ homeroom teacher. • If a student’s planner is signed for LE or RT, he/she will not be allowed to attend the meeting and the homeroom teacher should not give out the pass.

  10. Priority of Subjects Matrix

  11. Schedule • Academic Academy will be conducted on Thursdays for 50 minutes immediately following homeroom. Other class periods will be reduced by 10 minutes and homeroom will be reduced by 5 minutes. • First session will be held on September 24th!!
