Airborne pollutants are known to cause environmental damage as well as Airborne pollutants are known to cause environmental damage as well as  affect the life and performance of buildings. Robust façade cladding can  help prevent such costly damage. The result of a partnership between  Italian surfaces manufacturer Casalgrande Padana and Toto, a leading  Japanese manufacturer of sanitary ware products, Bios Self-Cleaning is  an innovative façade cladding solution that ensures high self-cleaning  and pollution abatement performance.  Bios Self-Cleaning® is a special treatment based on Hydrotect®  technology that helps enhance building shells with excellent self-cleaning  performance and remove pollutants in the presence of sunlight. When  the surface of the tile is exposed to sunlight, a reaction is triggered by  the Hydrotect treatment that reduces airborne pollutants while also  decomposing dirt on the tile surface. The decomposed dirt is washed  away by rainwater. Bios Self-Cleaning® consists of a component of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2),  which is a natural substance with photo-catalytic properties. This  means, the pollutants on the surface of the tile will be decomposed in  the presence of ultraviolet (UV) light.
