  1. Proteus Discovery Group Information Governance & its plan The concept of information governance is gaining popularity. Broadly, specialists in the field of enterprise information management seem to accept the value of Information Governance but few are doing anything about it. However, having said this, the gap between Information Governance objectives and corresponding execution in the real world. Information Governance is puzzling and fascinating to a broader audience than just the records and information management (RIM) community. Information governance and data governance become increasingly important for organizations looking to control and secure information, it is important to realize what each organization does and achieves with the implementation. Not limited to it, Information governance provides a strategic framework for organizations seeking to control data and information. It recognizes the value and opportunity of data as a strategic resource and identifies any kind of risks and costs involved in the event of denial with legal requirements and the consequences, in case of any serious data breach. Today, Technology can greatly assist information governance plans by providing the access to recover data that might have been compromised or lost because of any of the incidence. Because information governance plans call for training, employees ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities to help avoid loss and, likewise, could be held liable when acts of negligence, or any recklessness. Also, companies that maintain records on a database according to their information governance plans or policies can easily have access to backup documents for any incident, which might occur. Effectively communicating the information governance plans to the employees is challenging as having it does not hold much value until and unless it gets implemented properly. Any new changes or implementations need to be communicated properly to the employees to ensure effective utilization of the methods. Similarly, by communicating these changes or implementations to the customers belonging to any organization, the business can efficiently gain consumer confidence, which hence results in the increased revenue. Having placed the strong prominence on information governance can skew the balance of profitability, growth, and performance for small business, which has worked so hard to achieve. To establish and maintain that balance, however, a thorough information governance plan is a must that is on equal footing with other major disciplines in any organization.

  2. If a company’s data retention includes in its plan to keep everything forever, the company associates itself with a big risk. Any unnecessary information under the company’s belt will force the company in litigation to turn over more information compared to what it is legally bound to provide. Also, legal fees are associated with document reviews, and the more information, the more the cost. In today’s world, with entire industries being responsible or built around providing only certain data compared to all data, Proper governance limits the data that is maintained to strict legal standards and hence, limits the company’s legal responsibilities. Too much focus on just one area can kill creativity but it does not say that protecting a business is not good. If the policies are restrictive and prevent the workers from getting the job done, policies are not good. Therefore, Striking the proper balance is critical.
