(Ed) • SANDWICH LUNCH • LSU update (Darren & Carrie) • Student behaviour (Claire) • Student advice & guidance (Yvonne, Lynne & Jo) • Looking ahead to 2012 (all)

  3. The year ahead (1) • Need to build on a very succesful 2010 • 2011 is busiest year ever for applications to HE • LJMU apps up by 22% on like-for-like basis • Partly to avoid fees but also demographic trend • LJMU’s Level 1 undergrad target almost identical • Push for more International students (Sep & Jan) • No major increase in postgraduate numbers

The year ahead (2) • We need more city beds because Barkhill closed • So ECL students may take all of AC and GNH? • All rooms likely to be filled this year • Probably see higher % from outside the area • Might be slight increase in non-UK • Clearing will be short & mainly Insurance students • Welcome Week will be busy!

  5. LJMU allocation process (1) • All rents and details on our website since October • Students will request using online form • We will deal with any queries / friend requests etc • We add accommodation details to their SIS(*) record • Transfer key information to you when CF or UF • Partners will not receive NOK and Guarantor information this year, but otherwise no change • (*) Student Information System, being used at LJMU for first time this year

LJMU allocation process (2) • Partners will contact student by Email (or by post) • We will ensure that students expect that Email! • Student will complete booking on your website (or by post) • Usual two-way information flow between us re status of booking • Important to let each other know of cancelled and no-show students quickly • Do you need the booking pack letter?

  7. Confirmation of key information • Partners need to notify any changes to published rents and other terms • We would like a copy of your bedlist • Will need postgrad rooms at NWH, AP and LP • We need details of parking and disabled rooms • Also need details of smoking policy, contents insurance and Broadband (if different to last year) • We will use your generic Email – you should use ACCOFF

  8. Guarantors • All students who provide a valid guarantor can opt to pay in instalments • You decide what constitutes a valid guarantor • We need to know what you require and what you ask for • We don’t expect many non-UK will pass the “test” • We need to know your policy re IoM, Channel Isles, Gibraltar & BFPO • Do you require a guarantor if they pay in full?

Key dates 2011 • Tue, 1 March 2011: Request form available on our website • Wed, 9 March: First transfer to partners • Wed, 16 March: First day for applying for student funding • Fri, 3 June: LJMU scholarship deadline • Wed, 29 June: Open Day for 2012 applicants • Thu, 18 August: A Level results published • Sat, 20 August: Clearing Open Day • Sat, 10 September: Start of new student tenancies • Sat, 17 September: Move in / Welcome Week starts • Mon, 26 September: Start of teaching for undergrad courses

  10. Rent instalment dates 2011/12 • Tuesday, 4 October 2011 • Tuesday, 10 January 2012 • Tuesday, 27 March 2012 • You can set later dates if you wish but not earlier ones!

Have sent Applicant Dayschedule to all involved Need to know if there are any problems Not planning to accompany visits (usually) Will need to discuss some (e.g. Sports Science) NextOpen Dayis Wed, 29 June – not great for you Likely to be very busy again (we think) Great feedback from last Open Day (but crowded) Will need to rotate around the Halls May move to Sat & Sun (or 2 Sats) in October! Applicant Days & Open Days

Students would like chance to see more Halls Possibly held on afternoon of Wed, 1 June Students would direct themselves & drop in during this time All Halls with rooms left would need to be open We would provide additional help if required Registration and ticketing system (probably) ANY COMMENTS? Accommodation Open House?

  13. Students can move in from Saturday 10 September BUT we advise them not to come before 17 Sep You need to help us with that! Last year around 60% arrived on first weekend Will be plenty of support available at the Halls Facebook group useful for meeting people and will open again soon LSU Welcome Week from 17 to 25 September Wristbands likely to sell out before weekend? Welcome / arrival period 2011

  14. Communication with students • Accommodation Guide at October 2010 Open Day • Website updated with new rents in October • Applicant Guide sent out last week • Monthly e-Newsletters – Feb one will mention us • Facebook group will re-launch in March • New website launched in June for next Open Day • LSU will contact students nearer to start of year • We will use our wonderful new “welcome film” a lot!

Notify us of any changes to rents or other terms by 1 Feb at the latest Help us with the Applicant Days (where applicable) I will send out a (short) procedural guide to Hall Managers and key staff I will also ask for clarification of key information First day for requests is Tuesday, 1 March First date for you to receive student details is Wednesday, 9 March Next steps

  16. Please try to fill the rooms if you can Need to invoice us by end of June please One invoice per Hall (or provider) is fine Send invoice to me or to Collette Paid releases
