Authoritarian – ADJ, Noun • Subordinating the individual to the state; completely dominating another’s will • Children sometimes rebel against parents who are authoritarian.
Autonomous - ADJ • Self-governing • After the fall of the Soviet Union, many of its former republics became autonomous nation-states.
Avarice – Noun • Greediness for wealth • It was not avarice that motivated Joe to work hard to become wealthy so much as a desire for financial security.
Aversion – Noun • Firm dislike • I have an aversion to spicy food because it upsets my stomach.
Beguile – Verb • Charm; deceive by trickery • Eve was beguiled by the snake to take the fruit fromthe tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Belie – Verb • Contradict; give a false impression • His kind words were belied by his angry tone and expression.
