Brent Budget Overview • Status Quo • Reading Specialist & Science Teacher • Low “supply” line item in order to pay for reading and science teachers • PTA financial support allows us to pay for the two staff members • DCPS fully staffed our Specials teachers • DCPS fully staffed our front office • Both PWP programs extended for SY ‘15 due to continued DCPS funding (“Fun Fund”) • Math Academy and Summer Learning Academy • Other part of “Fun Fund” dedicated to whole staff Responsive Classroom PD (new for SY ‘15) • “Disappointing, but not devastating”

Early Childhood • 4 Mixed-age (3-and 4-year-olds) classrooms • 17 students per class (10 PK4, 7 PS3) • 1 teacher and 1 aide • Lunch in Classrooms • Morning and Afternoon Recess • 1-1.5 hour Rest Time • Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, Library, P.E. • Reggio Inspired Instruction: • Atelerista • Small Group Time with Art & Music Specialists (new for SY ‘14-’15)

Kindergarten • 3 Classrooms (new for SY ’14-’15) • 18-22 students per class • 1 teacher and 1 aide • 30-minute Lunch in Classrooms (new for SY ‘14-’15) • Morning and Afternoon Recess (60 total minutes) • Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, Library, P.E. • Daily Instruction: • 120 minutes of Literacy • 90 minutes of Math • 45 minutes Science / Social Studies

First Grade • 3 Classrooms • 16-22 students per class • 1 teacher • 30-minute Lunch with 2nd grade in Cafeteria • Morning and Afternoon Recess (60 total minutes) • Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, P.E., Science • Daily Instruction: • 120 minutes of Literacy • 90 minutes of Math • 45 Science / Social Studies

  6. Second Grade • 3 Classrooms • 16-20 students per class • 1 teacher • 30-minute Lunch with 1st Grade in Cafeteria • 30-minute Recess after Lunch • Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, P.E., Science • Daily Instruction: • 120 minutes of Literacy • 90 minutes of Math • 45 Science / Social Studies

Third Grade • 3 Classrooms (new for SY ‘14-’15) • 18-22 students per class • Differentiated Instruction (Leveled Math) • 30-minute Lunch with 4th and 5th Grades • 30-minute Recess after Lunch (new for SY 14-’15) • Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, P.E., Science • 45 minute Library check-out/typing time (typing led by classroom teacher). New for SY ‘14-’15 • Daily Instruction • 120 minutes of Literacy • 90 minutes of Math • 45 Science / Social Studies

Fourth Grade • 2 Classrooms • 20-24 students per class • Differentiated Instruction (Leveled Math) • 30-minute Lunch with 3rd and 5th Grades • 30-minute Recess after Lunch • Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, P.E., Science • 45 minute Library check-out/typing time (typing led by classroom teacher). New for SY ‘14-’15 • Daily Instruction • 120 minutes of Literacy • 90 minutes of Math • 45 Science / Social Studies
