  5. Supplementary Lessons (compulsory) • Weekly Outreach / Supplementary lessons • March / Sept Holidays Supplementary Lessons • June Holidays • Either Week 1 or Week 4 • Weeks 2 and 3 is a good window to plan for any overseas holidays • CCA or I*Star will stand down sometime in Term 2. Supplementary lessons will replace the CCA periods.

  11. Optional resources / Science • Optional Resources in the book list • PSLE Revision Guide (My Pals) • PSLE Revision and Examination Papers (My Pals) • It is entirely optional. It is meant for self-study and self-revision. Teachers will not use it for classroom teaching.

  12. PSLE Aggregate Score • The 4 main subjects which include English, Maths, Science and Mother Tongue will contribute towards a pupil’s PSLE aggregate score. • Each of the 4 main subjects carries equal weightage. • Higher Mother Tongue results does not contribute towards the aggregate score.

  13. PSLE Aggregate Score • The aggregate score is the sum of all the T-scores for the 4 subjects. • T-score formula : X = raw score of pupil Y = average raw score of the entire cohort Z = standard deviation of the cohort’s raw scores X – Y Z T = 50 + 10 ( )

  14. PSLE Aggregate Score • Key ideas • It is a relative score not a raw score. • It is not about how well a pupil scores. It is about how well he/she scores compared to all other pupils in the cohort. • E.g. If a pupil’s raw score is 75 (an “A”), but if all others score more than 75, the T-score will then be very low. • Each of the 4 subjects is equally important. • If a pupil scores exactly the cohort average for each of the 4 subjects, the aggregate score will be 200. • An easy paper might not lead to higher T-scores.

  16. PSLE Aggregate Score • Posting to secondary school is based on, first and foremost, merit according to pupils’ aggregate scores. • All pupils are ranked according to their aggregate scores. The secondary school posting exercise starts with the pupil with the highest PSLE aggregate scores.

Looking ahead.. • Do set challenging targets together with your child in terms of choice of secondary school, individual subject’s grades and overall PSLE aggregate score. • Such target-setting will help instill a sense of urgency and purpose in your child. • Jointly decide on an action plan to help your child to meet the targets.

  26. During the school holidays…. • Relax and bond with your child. • Encourage your child to read books, both English and Mother Tongue books. • Educational games • Revise any weak P4 and P5 concepts • Advance preparation of P6 syllabus especially for Maths and Science

  27. Finally…. • Do buy the P6 Textbooks and assessment resources early. • First day of school is 2 Jan 2014 (Thursday). Please return to Singapore early so that your child can attend lessons from Day 1. We strongly advise against pupils missing any lessons in P6. • Help your child to be mentally prepared for P6. The P6 curriculum is very intensive and fast-paced.
