Updates on SULI Student Projects and LCLS Cathode Performance Review

During the recent APE meeting held on June 26, 2011, SULI students presented their ongoing work on the broadband IR spectrometer, utilizing Class III HeNe lasers. Discussions included plans to acquire a low power CO2 laser for long wavelength calibration. Additionally, updates from the STA indicated few changes; participants were reminded to review their training lists online. The LCLS status report raised concerns over poor cathode performance with emittance at two times normal. Strategies such as ozone cleaning with newly purchased UV lamps and potential construction of a cathode processing chamber were also mentioned.

  1. APE meeting 6/26/11 • SULI students – will be working on the broad band IR spectrometer. • Using class_IIHeNe laser • Will try to purchase a low power CO2 laser, attenuate to Class_I to calibrate at long wavelengths. • STA annual updates • Few changes, but please check your training list online. • Need to go over position summaries • LCLS status: Cathode performance still quite poor (bad emittance – 2X normal). • Purchased UV lamps to try Ozone cleaning. • May build a cathode processing / test chamber • Resumes in for new Engineering Physicist hire
