  1. APE Meeting May 2 2011 • APE not extinct! • Keep the same function and many of the same people when we move to I&C Division • Probably get to keep the name as well • LOTS of good projects available • Gives us freedom to pick the fun projects • Everyone should be on the LCLS (or other accelerator) physics shift list (and PD when you are comfortable with that) • Very valuable to have hands-on experience running the accelerator when you are designing hardware and software.

  2. Bureaucratic Stuff • Norbert on the warpath about safety training • Please keep your training up to date • If you don’t need training, I’ll set it as voluntary • Conduct of engineering • Latest official word is that everyone needs to accumulate no vacation time this year • Must take as much as you gain • Also should get below the 240 hour “cap” or you lose vacation • Summer Hires • Possible if the project has the budget • SULI students • No official managers below department head level • Tonee will act as dept. head when I’m gone (often). • Henrik will stay as functional manager for high level apps • Reorganization will happen late May, some changes already.

  3. Projects • IR spectrometer needs help • Christopher Behrens was doing the design, but now back at DESY • 3 SULI students • Needs software / firmware and hardware work • X-ray diagnostics chamber controls / software needs help • Patrick has taken on the LCLS X-band TCAV • Recent simulations suggest this will be a very valuable tool • Lots of other projects going on!
