  2. Quotations • Smith:I’m glad to have the opportunity of visiting your corporation. I hope we can do business together. • Lili:It’s a great pleasure to meet you. I believe you have seen our exhibits in the show room. What is it in particular you’re interested in?

  3. Smith:I’m interested in your Flying Pigeon bicycles. Mr .Li! Could we have your quotations for the Flying Pigeon bicycles that you can supply from stock? If so, please quote your lowest price. • Lili:Yes. These bicycles come in two different styles, for man and for woman, • which do you prefer?

  4. Smith:for woman. • Lili:Any preference in color? • Smith:Green and purple. • Lili:Do you have any special requirements concerning the packing? • Smith:No. The regular strong seaworthy packing will do.

  5. Lili:Now I am pleased to quote:1000 bicycles for woman of Flying Pigeon brand at 90 US Dollars each FOB Xingang. Here ’s a list of requirements. All the prices in the lists are subject to our confirmation. The goods will be delivered 15 days after receiving your letter of credit.

  6. Smith:Thank you for the quotation. And what kind of L/C do you require? • Lili:An irrevocable and transferable L/C,allowing partial shipment. • Smith:I see. As we have large quantities,we hope you will give us a lower price so as to help us introduce your products to our markets.

  7. Lili:I’m sorry our price is already very low as it is. We really can not. As the price quoted is likely to rise,I would advise you to place your order without delay. • Smith:All right. What about the commission? From European suppliers I usually get a 3 to 5 percent commission for my imports. It’s the general practice.

  8. Lili:Since the order is a sizable one,we ’ll consider it. When shall we sign the contract? • Smith:Would 10 o’clock tomorrow morning be all right for you? • Lili:That’s O.K with me. Shall we have a drink this evening to celebrate? • Smith:Good idea! • Lili:I will wait for you at 6 o’clock this evening at the Gate. See you ! • Smith:See you!
