Geography • Mountains • Most ofborderareas are mountainous. • Thehighestmountainis Sněžka (1, 602 m), whichislocated in theGiantMountains (Krkonoše) in thenorth. • Othersignificantmountains are theOreMountains (Krušné hory) in thewest,the Bohemian Forest ( Šumava) in thesouthortheAshMountains (Jeseníky) andthe Beskydy Mountains (Beskydy) in Moravian region. • Thegreatestlowlands are in thesouthMoravia region andnear Olomouc in Haná area.
Rivers • Czechriversflow to threedifferentseas- theNorthSea,theBalticSeaandtheBlackSea. • Thelongestrivers are the Vltava (433 km) andtheElbe (Labe) (370 km in theCzechRepublic). • The Vltava, whichflows to theElbenear Mělník, isfavouriteforcanoeists. • TheElbeisusedfortransportingfreights. • LongMoravianrivers are the Morava andthe Dyje. TheRiver Odra islocated in Silesian region.
Lakes • TheCzechRepublichasn´t gotso many lakes. • The most famous are lakes in theBohemiansForest, which are ofglacialorigin, forexampleBlackLake (Černé jezero) – thelargest, Čertovo LakeorLakePlešné. • Anotherfamouslakeis Máchovo Lake, becauseoftheCzech poet Karel Hynek Mácha andbecauseofrecreation.
Ponds • A lot ofpondsarelocated in South Bohemia in area Třeboň, whereisthelargestpond Rožmberk. These ponds are famousmainlyforfarmingCzechcarps. • Dams • Ourdamswerebuiltbecauseofprotectionbeforefloodsor as a placeforrelaxationandswimming. • Borders • TheCzechRepublicbordersupwith 4 states – withGermany (thelongestborderline) in thenorthand in thewest, withAustria in thesouth, withSlovakia in thesouthand in theeastandwithPolland in theeastand in thenorth.
Nature • Natureispicturesque in theCzechRepublic. • Our country issituated in mildclimatezone, thuswehavefourregularlychangingseasons, whichissuitableforgrowingpotatoes, cornsandsugarbeets. • Wehavebroad-leaved, mixedandconiferousforests, where live deers, reddeers, haresand a lot ofmatesofbirds live. • Wehave 4 naturereserves –theGiantMountains,the Bohemian Forest,theBohemiansSchwitzerland (České Švýcarsko) andthe Podyjí. • Thenatureisverydisrupted in someareas, forexample in north-western Bohemia becauseofextractionofcoalor in Ostrava becauseofminingandengineeringindustry.
Moravian – Silesian Region • Moravian – Silesian region islocated in thenorth – eastoftheCzechRepublic. • Thebiggest city is Ostrava (thethirdbiggest city in theCzechRepublic), whichisknownforitsengineeringindustryandforhistoricalmining centre. Thereis a newtownhallwith a tower, whereyoucanseeall Ostrava. • The region issurrounded by the Beskydy Mountains, whereyoucan visit thehighestmountainofthe region Lysá hora orPustevnyand Radhošť, whereisthe Statue of Radegast andtheChapelofApostles. • Hukvaldy CastleandStramberk Tube belongamongwell-knownmonuments.Youcan taste localdelicacy – Stramberkears (Štramberské uši).
InterestingCities • Karlovy Vary isthebiggestandthe most visitedspa in theCzechRepublic. Thereis a thermalspring, which has temperatureabout 72 °C . Healingspringtreatsdiseasesofdigestingtractordisorderofglandswithinternalsecretion. • Pardubice are famousforhorseraces Velká Pardubická, which are heldeveryOctober. Pardubice are renownedforproductionofgingerbread. • Jablonec nad Nisou is a district city in thenorth.Thereisfashionjewelleryandglassmanufacture.
Unesco sites • TheCzechRepublic has 12 monumentsofworldpatrimonyof Unesco (UnitedNationsEducational, ScientificandCulturalOrganization). • I thinkthatthe most beatifulisthecapital city ofPraguewithitsbeatifulhistorical centre. • Others are Olomouc, whereisTheHolyTrinityColumn • orČeský Krumlov with 300 rennaissanceandgothicbuildings. • or a castleandcastlegardens in Kroměříž.
Sport • The most popularsports are footballandice- hockey. • Thefootballis more popular on thehomelevelandtheice- hockey more on thenationallevel. • Czechice – hockeyplayershavebeenWorldchampionsforsixtimesandtheywontheOlympicGames in Nagano in 1998.Nowadays, thebestplayeris Jaromír Jágr. • Otherpopularsports are tennis (Tomáš Berdych), athletics (Barbora Špotáková), basketball andvolleyball. • Czechpeople are keenbikersandtheylike in-line andhikingtoo.
My opinions • Positives • Onetheonehand,theCzechRepublicisquite a small country andwecantraveloverthewholerepublic. I thinkthatpeopleshouldknowtheir country. • Therepublic has a goodlocation –itislocated in theheartofEurope. • Wehave 4 seasons. Itis a bigadvantageforme, becausewehavebeatiful sunny weather in thesummerandsnow in thewinter. • I love ourwoodenwonderfulnature, wherethereare suitableconditionsforhiking.
Negative • On theotherhand, our country hasn´t gotaseaandhighermountains, whichis a problem in winter, becauseitisshortofsnowforskiing. • Czechlanguageisvery nice, butwecan´t communicatewithit in otherstates. • Conditionofourmotorwaysandroadsishorrible. • I hateourpoliticalsystemandmainlyourpoliticians, becausetheytakeonlymoney andthey do nothing. • To sum itup, thelifeisquitedifficult in theCzechRepublic, but I likeour country and I wouldn´t like to changeit.
