  3. Permafrost • Permafrost is ground that remains frozen year-round. • Due to climate change the ice cover in the Arctic Ocean is rapidly shrinking.

  4. Our world in 2050 • This diagram shows our world in 2050 • You can see (blue color) the increased severity/frequency of tropical storms • You can see (green) the decreasing crop yields • And (orange) the greater risk of disease

  5. What are some impacts of climate changes on Canada? • Statistics Canada reports that, in some areas of the country • 22 out of 23 winters have had temperatures above normal • Surface temperatures have increased between 0.5 degree and 1.5 degree Celsius.

  6. What are some impacts of climate change on BC? • 30 cm rise in the sea level along the northern coast of British Columbia. • More rain and drought to some areas • Will affect the supply of water • the demand for more water. • Drought will increase the risk of forest fires

  7. Prevention What can we do? • Reduce, Reuse and Recycle • Use less heating and air conditioning • Change a light bulb • Drive less • Buy energy efficient products • Use less hot water • Use the “off” switch • Plant a tree
