The action of working with someone to produce something(Oxford English Dictionary) Collaboration is working with each other to do a task and to achieve shared goals (Wikipedia) “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” (Henry Ford – Entrepreneur 1863 – 1947)

Partnership and Collaboration(what we are) (what we do) The defining attributes of collaboration; • Intellectual and co-operative • Knowledge and expertise more important than role or title • Joint venture • Team working • Participation in planning and decision making • Non-hierarchical relationship • Sharing of expertise • Willingness to work together towards an agreed purpose • Trust and respect in collaborators • Great communication

  5. Collaboration, the story so far……… • Commitment to supporting a thriving third sector • Streamlining of historical grant arrangements • Infrastructure support for VCS • Established Consortiums with Lead Organisations and Area Based Grants • Review of Communities of Identity funding

  6. Future Collaboration • Preferable to adopt one change at a time • Current working practice promotes collaboration which should be regarded as ‘the norm’ rather than the exception • Collaboration should bring additional resources • Greater flexibility will bring greater accountability
