Convicts!!!. By Georgie and Georgia. What is a convict?. Someone who has broken the LAW!!! Very bad ones are usually hung or shot! They were taken from their countries to places they have never been before! Their pretty much the same as prisoners!. What did convicts look like?.

  2. What is a convict? • Someone who has broken the LAW!!! • Very bad ones are usually hung or shot! • They were taken from their countries to places they have never been before! • Their pretty much the same as prisoners!

  3. What did convicts look like? • Most were poor and they usually wore damaged clothes (POSSIBLY RAGS) • Convicts were mainly British.

  4. What did the convicts do in Australia? • Shelter for themselves and built public buildings and roads. • They grew food and also cut wood. • They worked for people like slaves. • They also made canoes to escape Australia!!!!!

  5. What other countries have convicts? • United States convicts were sent there before they broke the British rule! • There were also convicts in Japan!

  6. What happened to the dead convicts on the ships? • They threw them over board. • The worst death rate on transport was in 1799- Hillsborough ship sailing to NSW!!!

  7. How did the convicts live? • Clearing bushland around Sydney cove and other areas. • Most were not willing workers. • Many were whipped by the cat-o-nine tail whip!!!

  8. How did they become convicts? • Stealing something as simple as a loaf of bread or a shirt. • Murderers or seriously dangerous criminals robbery or mugging. • Some unlucky people were arrested for looking suspicious!!!

  9. How many convicts came to Australia? • Over the 80 years of transporting convicts to Australia more than 165,000 convicts came.

  10. How many convicts could fit on the ships? • The first fleet(11 ships) fitted 759 convicts, 13 children of convicts and 207 marines.

  11. Why were they committing crimes? • Times were tough and they needed to commit crimes to SURVIVE!!!!! • Because they wanted to and because they needed food and water/drinks to also survive!!

  12. Why did the convicts come to Australia? • The British prisons and boat were all to full so they started sending them to Australia, also the USA. The British also viewed Australia as being unused.

  13. Where did the convicts live in Australia? • They lived around Port Jackson, Botany Bay in Sydney. • Mortan Bay in Brisbane • Port Arthier near Hobart. • The separated the mums and dads from their children. • Most of the children simply ran wild and lived in hollow trees!!!

Where did all the Convicts come from? • Most of the convicts came from England which was 70%! • The second most amount of Convicts that came from Ireland was 24%! • The third most amount of Convicts that came from Scotland was 5%! • The least amount of Convicts came from Wales and any other country with only 1%!

  15. Were there more female Convicts than Male? • No way man there was so many more males than females!!!! Because male convicts are more aggressive than women convicts!!!!

  16. Why did Convicts get punished? • They ‘usually’ got punished for doing the wrong thing or being disobedient!!! • Some unlucky Convicts worked for cruel people who punished them for NO REASON!!!!!!

  17. Which crime was committed most by Convicts? • STEALING!!!!!! Mostly because they needed clothes or food because most people usually STRUGGLED a lot!!!!!
