  2. Introduction • Central verification used for Graded Unit examinations • Date set • Centre asked to confirm delivery • Selection of Centres made (in line with SQA sampling policy)

  3. Preparation for Event • List of Centres allocated to Senior External Verifier • Senior Verifier allocates Centres to appropriate External Verifiers (taking into account declared/known interests) • Standardisation meeting/training event arranged to discuss the strategy and sample

  4. The Event • Packs are allocated to External Verifiers and checked • The External Verifier makes a sample from the materials submitted • The following checks are made • Instrument of Assessment is valid • Arithmetic checks and grade (including cut-off scores in GU1) • Application of marking scheme

  5. The Event • The process of reviewing work • Not Accepted decisions • Team decision • Signed by Senior External Verifier • Report Writing • Standardisation meetings take place throughout the event

  6. The Event • Final review of the event/input to Internal Assessment Report

How Centres Can Help... • Ensure that all Assessment Exemplar Packs are Internally Verified (including updates to the marking scheme) • Ensure that all Centre-Devised Assessments are Internally Verifiedand Prior-Verified by SQA • Include records of Internal Verification with candidate work • Include a copy of the Instrument of Assessment used

  8. How Centres Can Help... • Ensure that work is marked and that the marking is clear and consistent (Internal Verification) • Ensure that material is submitted in good order and on time
