  4. Desktop Virtualization Pilot • Pilot occurred at Whitehall in late July – early Sept • Both local OS streaming and hosted desktops tested • Multimedia performance was not adequate • Infrastructure and software licensing costs too expensive

  5. Deep Freeze • Investigate the future viability of enabling PACs to act as “download kiosks” while addressing: • Patron privacy • Protecting the machines from malware • All system changes are discarded after each reboot • This enables us to allow patrons and/or staff to install software • EnvisionWare would be configured to reboot between sessions

  6. Windows 7 Pilot • Pilot at Oakmont underway, starting with one public PC and one shared staff PC • Windows 7 will be deployed remotely to existing PCs • New version of the EnvisionWare PC Reservation Client required • Deep Freeze will be installed

  7. New PC Hardware • Currently pricing out hardware from multiple vendors • Desktop options • Standard PC • All-in-One (space savings) • Single purpose PC (lower cost) • Laptop options • Examine shorter 2 year product lifecycle • Examine lease or purchase options • Evaluate a service option for libraries to purchase and use their own alternative models

  8. What’s Next? • Gather feedback • Develop options and offerings • Determine viability of full Windows 7 upgrade on current hardware • Prepare for 2011 PC Deployment!
