  1. UNIVERSITY OF NIŠ The University of Niš was accredited as an independent public higher-education institution in February 2009. All its constituent Faculties were also duly accredited in line with the Law on Higher Education.

  2. The University of Niš is a state-governed educational and research institution. At present, the University comprises 13 faculties: • Civil Engineering and Architecture, • Economy, • Electronic Engineering, • Medicine, • Mechanical Engineering, • Law, • Sciences and Mathematics, • Technology in Leskovac, • Teacher-training Faculty in Vranje, • Occupational Safety, • Fine Arts, • Sport and Physical Education and • Faculty of Philosophy.The procedure for establishing Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Theology is underway.

  3. The University of Niš was incorporated as an independent level-granting institution on June 15, 1965. First undergraduate programs commenced in Niš in 1960, at the three newly formed faculties (Faculty of Law and Economics, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Engineering), under the academic patronage of the University of Belgrade.

The University started its independent life with 234 fulltime teaching staff and 10500 students.Today, the teaching process at the University is covered by 1556 teachers, 630 staff and extracurricular staff members, and a total number of 28660 students at all study levels:• 24109 students are enrolled in basic academic, basic professional and integrated studies (61 of whichare foreign citizens), • 858 students in master’s academic studies, • 49 in specialist professional studies,• 25 in specialist academic studies, • 1347 students in doctoral academic studies,• 2277 students attending old master's degree programs.

  5. From it’s foundation in 1965 until the academic 2010/2011 year:• 53069 students have graduated,• 1333 of them are foreign citizens, • 2462 acquired master’s degree,• 1345 candidates defended doctoral dissertations.

PublishingTextbooks, workbooks, manuals, monographs,collected papers, proceedings and informative booklets have been published at the University of Niš since 1970, and up to now there has been over 170 publications of this kind.• The ScientiFic Journal "FactaUniversitatis" is an international journal which has been published in English since 1986• The Journal for Social Theory and Practice "Teme" has been published since 1977

  8. TEMPUSSince 2001, the University of Niš has been participating in the international program TEMPUS with numerous projects, either as a local coordinator or a partner. The projects have mainly been oriented towards the higher education system reform, institutional reorganization of our universities or harmonization of our study programs with the European academic standards.
