BACKGROUNDHistory • 2007 San Antonio Housing Studies Consolidated Report • Recommended new process, re-establish community development goals • Prioritize housing funding based on problem analysis (e.g. severity of need by income group) • Increase rate of rehabilitation and new housing production • De-concentrate patterns of affordable housing production • Create robust Action Plan and make performance information available • Feb 2007: City Council direction to develop a three-year Strategic Plan • June-July 2007: Strategic Planning Summit • September 2007: Draft Strategic Plan presented at Housing Summit Planning and Community Development Department Strategic Plan for Community Development

BACKGROUNDVision For Community Development • We seek to create and sustain a connected community comprising: • sustainableneighborhoods that are safe, walkable, mixed-use, diverse, compact, green and well designed; • an ample supply of and diverse range of affordable, quality and green housing that is well-integrated into mixed-use neighborhoods; • multi-modal, integrated, accessible, efficient and comprehensively planned transportation options; • physical infrastructure that supports community development; • economic opportunity accessible to residences in the form of jobs and workforce education resulting in living wages and increasing per capital income; • equitable services; • well-preserved historic and cultural resources; and • a clean and healthy environment with safe places and ready access to medical and health services.
