  1. August 25th, 2014 Review of Inequalities

  2. Review of Symbols Less Than: ____________ Greater Than: _______________ Less Than or Equal To: _________Greater Than or Equal To: _________

  3. Solving Linear Inequalities

  4. Solving Systems of Linear Inequalities To solve a system of inequalities, you must find the ordered pairs that satisfy all inequalities. • One way to do this is to graphthe inequalities on the same coordinate plane. • The intersectionof the graphs contains the points which satisfy all the inequalities in the problem. • If the graphs of the inequalities do not intersect, then the system has no solution.

  5. Example 1 Solve the system of inequalities by graphing:

  6. August 25th, 2014 ACED.3: Representing constraints by inequalities & by systems of inequalities

  7. Example 1 Solve: Twice a number plus 5 is less than 7

  8. Example 2Grace wants to buy some new clothes, but she cannot afford more than $75 before the sales tax is added. The blouses she wants are priced $17 each and the pants she wants are priced $25 each. Which inequality could be used to determine b, the number of blouses, and p, the number of pants Grace can afford?

  9. Part 1 The B & W Leather Company wants to add handmade belts and wallets to its product line. Each belt nets $18 in profit and each wallet nets $12 in profit. Write an inequality to represent how many belts and wallets they would need to produce to make at least $324.

  10. Part 2 The machine they use to make the belts and wallets can make at most 22 total items. Write an inequality to represent how many belts and wallets B & W Leather Company can make total.

  11. Part 3 How many belts and wallets can they make to maximize their profit?
